How to generate Instagram hashtags
- Describe your post or niche in a few words: what’s in the photo or Reel, who it’s for, where.
- Press Generate hashtags.
- Copy the best 5 in one click, or swap in alternatives from the groups.
The generator suggests 15 hashtags in three groups — broad ones with a big audience, niche ones where your post can stand out, and specific ones that describe exactly this post — and puts the best mix of 5 on top, ready to copy.
How many hashtags to use on Instagram
Since December 2025 Instagram allows up to 5 hashtags on a post or Reel; hashtags in the first comment count toward the same limit. With only five, each one has to earn its place: one broad tag for the topic, two niche tags for the community and two that describe this exact post usually work better than five generic ones. Hashtags help Instagram understand what the post is about, but they are not the main source of reach — the content and how people react to it are.
Hashtags to avoid
- Tags like #follow4follow, #like4like or #f4f, which look like spam.
- Hashtags that have nothing to do with the post.
- The exact same set on every post — vary them with the content.
Hashtags bring people to a post; how many of them like it in the first hour decides how far Instagram shows it. Early likes help a new post start strong.
