How to calculate TikTok engagement rate
On TikTok, engagement is usually measured against views, not followers, because most views come from the For You feed:
ER = (likes + comments + shares) ÷ views × 100%
Type a username and the calculator reads the account’s latest videos for you: it takes the views, likes, comments and shares of up to 10 recent videos, leaves out pinned ones and shows the rate of each video. To check one video, switch to Enter numbers and type in what you see under it.
Why engagement rate matters
TikTok decides how far a video goes by how people react to it in the first hours. A video that many viewers like, comment on and share is pushed to more For You feeds. That makes engagement the best early sign of whether a video will grow, and the number brands ask about first.
What is a good engagement rate on TikTok?
- Below 3% — low.
- 3–6% — average.
- 6–10% — good.
- Above 10% — excellent.
These ranges are the ones most often quoted; the real average depends on the niche, the account’s size and the type of content. Compare an account with similar ones, and with its own results over time.
How to improve your TikTok engagement
- Hook in the first second. Viewers who stay are the ones who react.
- Give a reason to share: useful tips, relatable moments and trends travel furthest.
- End with a question to get comments, and reply to them with new videos.
- Post often and at the same times, so your audience expects you.
- Give new videos a start. Early views, likes and shares help a video into more feeds.
